Raku Firing & Ceramics Lecture with Ben Freund (Sat. 3/28 11am-4pm)

(This class is only for current ceramic studio members & students enrolled in an 8-week ceramic course at Manor Mill. No outside participants at this time.)

Come learn about the wonderful world of raku firing with ceramic artist and instructor, Ben Freund! This class will begin with an instructional presentation by Ben describing the brief history of raku, the process itself, and its varied results and finishing techniques for those who haven’t raku fired at through Manor Mill before. Students will then have a month to create and bisque fire work using a specific clay for raku firing. Students will then be given an assortment of raku glazes to apply on their bisque fired pieces. Then everyone will meet up for multiple, hands-on raku firings at Black Locust Brewery on Saturday, March 28th , 11am~4pm.

Ben’s lecture at Manor Mill, raku clay, a variety of raku glazes, gas for the kilns, and multiple raku firings on 3/28 are included in the cost of the class. Each student can bring about 4 pieces no larger than a cantaloupe. If working small, exceptions may be made, but must be discussed with Brad or Ben. The cost for first time raku(ers) is $195.

If this is your second time raku firing through Manor Mill, you are not required to attend the lecture class and the cost of the class is reduced to $130.
