We see rocks and stones on a casual basis almost every day. When we stop and look closely, however, they offer a wealth of beautiful colors and textures. In this workshop, we’ll paint a beautiful rock cairn with liquid watercolor ink. Rock cairns (from the Scottish Gaelic word carn or “heap of stones”) have historically been used for navigational aids as well as symbols of spiritual, artistic, or commemorative significance. We’ll create various textures and grains on our watercolor rocks using plastic wrap, sprayed alcohol, and sprinkled salt. We’ll add shading for dimension and final details with waterproof ink. All materials included.
Best for ages 13+
